Mom penguin and yearling
The mother was walking away from the youngster, as she was trying to wean him. In another few days, he would start to molt and then he could go in the water to feed himself. In the meantime, he kept following her for about 15 minutes on the beach, chirping and pecking away at her, wanting to be fed. She would turn around and squawk at him, even pecking away back. This very much reminded me of a 29-year-old child still living at home, and mom is trying to ease him out the door to live his own life.
